The Upper West Side is Manhattan's family-friendly intellectual enclave, bounded by Central Park to the east and Riverside Park to the west. The neighborhood is home to Lincoln Center, Columbia University at its northern end, and the American Museum of Natural History. Prewar apartment buildings with doormen line Central Park West and West End Avenue, many converted to condos and co-ops. Broadway is the neighborhood's commercial spine, with everything from Zabar's (the legendary appetizing store) to Fairway Market. The neighborhood has a more relaxed, neighborhood-y feel than much of Manhattan — parents push strollers on Columbus Avenue, kids play in Riverside Park, and longtime residents know their local shopkeepers. The 1/2/3 express trains make for a quick commute downtown.
